Firefly was tasked with raising awareness of charity Xtraordinary People and educating the Government and general public about dyslexia and the need for specialist teacher training so that dyslexic children can be taught effectively. We lobbied the Government for a change to teacher training for dyslexic kids and to get the issue firmly on the agenda, founder and ordinary mum Kate Griggs ran for office in the Election against Secretary of State for Education Ruth Kelly – generating publicity and driving people to sign an online petition for delivery to Number 10.
The campaign achieved Government support, national TV and print news features and a live one-on-one debate with Ruth Kelly on GMTV.
