Firefly was appointed lead pan-European agency for LeaseWeb, an international hosting company based in Amsterdam.
A police enquiry revealed a malicious botnet (malware Trojan virus) hosted on a reseller within LeaseWeb’s server network. Firefly worked with LeaseWeb’s security officer to proactively reach out to a range of media to channel media expectations to ensure favourable outcomes of the reporting of the investigation. Firefly secured over 80 placements of LeaseWeb commentary in national, consumer, b2b tech and online media about the Bredolab botnet.
Although the story had the potential to develop into a crisis, Firefly worked to skilfully manage all outbound communications, which resulted in the media being fully-briefed on the situation, and coverage that was 100% neutral-to-positive. The media contacts that were developed from the botnet incident have matured into solid relationships, with the potential to generate on-going coverage opportunities for LeaseWeb as experts in online security and a “go-to” source for data hosting issues.
