Social Media PR support for Marie Curie Cancer Care

Firefly is, once again, working with leading charity Marie Curie Cancer Care to provide pro-bono PR support for the Edinburgh and Lothian’s hospice. Overrun by their day-to-day community outreach and fundraising activities, the charity is glad for the extra pair of hands to help boost its profile locally and to drive awareness of the amazing work carried out by the hospice and its many volunteers.

Fiona Bushby, Marie Curie’s local community fundraising manager, said: “We are excited to be working with Firefly again and, in particular, look forward to utilising their digital expertise in putting the Edinburgh hospice on the social media map. We recognise that social networking via Twitter and Facebook is a great marketing tool for charitable work, and nationally Marie Curie does use it, but we have yet to find the time to create a digital presence for the hospice locally.”    

Firefly’s first task will be to promote the charity’s Mini Pots of Care campaign, a fun and creative initiative that helps children aged 3-11 learn about science and nature by planting a daffodil, the emblem of the charity, in their own mini pot during the autumn term. School kids in Edinburgh will join over 352,400 others taking part in the campaign throughout the UK, which will see them nurture and care for their plants throughout the winter months. In Spring the children will celebrate their daffodils in bloom by painting their daffodil pot wrappers and entering a competition for the best design, before taking their pots home to someone they care about in return for a small donation for the charity. The aim of campaign is to communicate the emotion and practical care that Marie Curie nurses provide to terminally ill people at the end of their lives.
