I first joined Firefly as a student, working part-time in the Paris office while I was doing my degree. It was an invaluable experience and I’d recommend every student do some form of work experience alongside their studies. Everyone at Firefly understood I was there to learn, and wasn’t just an extra pair of hands or someone to make the tea. I was given responsibility from day one, which was daunting at first, but I was always given support and guidance so I never felt completely out of my depth. I was given as much exposure as possible to agency life, had contact with clients and was treated as a full member of the team. Firefly’s diverse client base meant I worked on a range of clients and did everything from compiling thousand-page cutting books to helping organise press events. This well-rounded view of the PR industry helped me make some important decisions after graduation, when I began working on clients full-time. It was an easy decision. I knew I would be working with some of the brightest and most creative people in the industry and that I would receive first-class training. Plus, it’s great fun working here.

Before joining Firefly, I worked at an online digital marketing company whilst completing my final year in Philosophy. I really enjoyed working on the digital side of marketing, however I always wanted to be more involved in the creative side, so I could improve my writing skills. When I was first interviewed for the job at Firefly, I instantly knew that I wanted to be part of the team. Everyone was really warm and friendly, which is at the heart of the culture and what sets the company apart from other places I’ve worked at. I have definitely faced challenges and have been pushed out my comfort zone, but with the support of the team I have been able to rise to the challenges. The great thing about Firefly is that everyone, no matter what level, gets to input their ideas into campaigns. Friday late afternoon wine time is also a great perk! I can truly say that I enjoy everyday at Firefly, the day goes past in a quick flash, but I leave feeling satisfied and appreciated.

After doing a number of internships at different companies during my studies, I realised my passion was PR. I started my professional career at Firefly Munich in September 2009 and from the first day I felt that I was not only doing the right job, but I was also working for the right agency. At Firefly every day is different, it’s always a challenge but also exciting. I was given responsibility from day one and was never lacking guidance or support, so I never felt overstretched. I especially like the international environment, the creative atmosphere, my colleagues who all come with such a great team spirit and our amazing clients. There are two major aspects as to why I really appreciate being a Firefly: No matter what level, everyone can put forward their ideas and a well-balanced work life balance is not only a feel-good phrase. I thoroughly enjoy working here and can recommend this agency to potential clients as well as to potential applicants!

Firefly intern
For a young graduate looking for employment, the marketing industry is a notoriously tough nut to crack. I wanted to stand out from the grad-scheme crowd by having some really relevant experience both for my own professional development, and to make the crucial first step onto the career ladder a fraction easier. Firefly gave me the experience that I was looking for and more. Every day there was something new to be done and a new skill to learn: from scouting forward features to participating in international conference calls. There was so much variety and so much to do that the days flew by. Once I’d proved that I was a grafter, my responsibilities grew to pitching clients to national press, arranging media interviews and helping to organise a PR event. My biggest successes were securing an interview in a Times supplement and ghost-writing for a nationally recognised technology website. These creative opportunities, along with completing all the equally important everyday tasks, have strengthened my existing skills and helped me to develop new ones. This experience, coupled with my previous internship in experiential marketing, means that I have a valuable portfolio of proven skills that I can demonstrate to future employers. What makes Firefly stand-out as a company is the atmosphere in the office—though it sounds like a cliché, they really are like a big family and there’s always a funny story to be shared, cupcakes to be eaten or (on Friday afternoon) a glass of wine to be enjoyed. Firefly are a very conscientious agency and even covered my expenses meaning I wasn’t out of pocket. I would not hesitate to recommend interning at Firefly to anyone who has their finger on the pulse and wants to get a head start into the world of marketing.

Firefly intern
I began interning at Firefly straight after I finished my finals at university. I had previously done work experience in PR and was certain it was the field I wanted to go into after finishing my degree, but I wanted some more experience of the type of role I would eventually be entering into and a chance to understand a little more about the PR industry. The internship with Firefly offered me this (and more) in spades! From day one I was made to feel an important part of the friendly Firefly team, assuming a support role for multiple client teams working across a variety of sectors, contributing to campaign brainstorming and being given ownership of challenging tasks. I was also given the chance to build on my skills set, gaining insight into the role of social media in PR, and was provided with the opportunity to improve my writing skills, all of which has stood me in good stead in getting a job. Firefly were also brilliant in helping me fund my internship giving me enough money to cover my expenses so the experience did not cost me personally. My time at Firefly taught me so much about the workings of a busy PR agency and left me feeling confident in my own abilities, which has been a great help starting in a new role.
